Rony Sidon

Rony Sidon was born in Guadeloupe in 1974. He studied Fine Art for three years in Martinique in the French Caribbean before going on to study further in Toulouse in France where he obtained his Masters in Visual Art. He was the assistant of Ben Vautier, Galleries Jacques Girard, Toulouse.

Rony has been living and working in Ireland since June 1998.

Proposal:

The physicality of most piece of Rony Sidon is articulated with a poor man’s material, used in Packaging and an every-day item – Cardboard. An aesthetic work would be born from the artist’s craft, tearing up and then piece by piece reassembling and bringing together this new medium with adhesive bands. As materials used Charcoal, paintbrushes, spray, the black of lines are introduced, creating symbols and pictures.

His work is hybrid by nature, enriched by an intense style, overlaying materials and symbols that reflect contemporary culture.

Rony constructs his reality with colors, abstract black lines and symbols.

The proposal approach for the project Ballerina is to explore the notion of freedom within the danse / Ballerina by Edgar Degas. The artistic freedom to let the layers of mark visible.

To not have a preconceive idea of the result but to trust the organic way of creation moment by moment.

One piece will be created with Martin (a dialogue through Art process) and a second will be made Rony.

“Only when he no longer knows what he is doing does the painter do good things.”

– Edgar Degas
